High School Leaders Forum
Dates and location for 2021 TBA
Several times a year, the Institute schedules one High School Leaders Forum at a flagship member school so that visitors can see Catholic liberal arts education in practice. We hope to reschedule the Philadelphia area program that had to be cancelled in April due to the pandemic. This particular program will be co-hosted by The Regina Chesterton Academy at Cardinal O’Hara High School (Springfield, PA), which is a Catholic classical track established within an existing diocesan high school, and Martin Saints Classical High School (Oreland, PA), a start-up, independent classical liberal arts school in the Catholic tradition.
Typically, the format includes a welcome reception and introductory talk at 7 p.m. on Thursday, followed by a full day of observation on Friday. Participants have the opportunity to observe one or both schools and speak with faculty members about their experience of teaching in a Catholic classical liberal arts high school. On Friday evening, participants have the opportunity to meet and talk with school leaders and faculty members at dinner. Saturday features seminars and workshops on various aspects of transitioning to, launching, and running a Catholic classical liberal arts high school with special emphasis on curriculum and pedagogy. The program concludes by 3 p.m.
Cost: $750 per person (includes school visit, seminars, workshops, and all lunches, dinners, and snacks during the course of the program). Space is limited. Participants are responsible for their own accommodations; a list of recommended hotels will be provided.
SCHOOL LEADERS: Be aware that many schools are able to fund program participation via Federal Title funding. Importantly, see here for a recent policy letter from Secretary DeVos indicating that such funding for secular services from religious organizations does not violate the Establishment clause. If you have questions regarding Title funding, please feel free to contact us for guidance.
