Several times a year, the Institute hosts a “School Leaders Forum” at a flagship member school that has been steeped in Catholic liberal education for some time so that educators from around the country can see what the Church’s vision of education looks like in practice.
High School Leaders Forum
April 2-4, 2020
The Regina Chesterton Academy at Cardinal O’Hara High School & Martin Saints Classical High School
Philadelphia area, PA
The Institute for Catholic Liberal Education will be hosting its second-ever “High School Leaders Forum” this spring in the Philadelphia area. The program will be hosted by The Regina Chesterton Academy at Cardinal O’Hara High School (Springfield, PA), which is a Catholic classical track established within an existing diocesan high school, and Martin Saints Classical High School (Oreland, PA), a start-up, independent classical liberal arts school in the Catholic tradition.
The forum will include a welcome and introductory talk at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, followed by a full day of observation on Friday. Participants will have the opportunity to observe either or both schools and speak with faculty members about their experience of teaching in a Catholic classical liberal arts high school. On Friday evening, participants will have the opportunity to meet and talk with school leaders and faculty members at dinner. Saturday will feature seminars and workshops on various aspects of transitioning to, launching, and running a Catholic classical liberal arts high school with special emphasis on curriculum and pedagogy. The program will conclude by 3:00 p.m.
Cost: $750 per person (includes school visit, seminars, workshops, and all lunches, dinners, and snacks during the course of the program). Space is limited. Participants are responsible for their own accommodations; a list of recommended hotels will be provided.
SCHOOL LEADERS: Be aware that many schools are able to fund program participation via Federal Title funding. Importantly, see here for a recent policy letter from Secretary DeVos indicating that such funding for secular services from religious organizations does not violate the Establishment clause. If you have questions regarding Title funding, please feel free to contact us for guidance.
