The Spirit & Craft of Teaching
in the Catholic Liberal Arts Tradition
hosted by the Diocese of Columbus
July 27-31, 2026
Saint Brendan the Navigator Parish | Hilliard, OH
Program Description
The Institute for Catholic Liberal Education’s most hands-on, sequential event, The Spirit & Craft of Teaching in the Catholic Liberal Arts Tradition immerses teachers in the theory and practice of Catholic liberal arts pedagogy. We are pleased to offer new and veteran teachers of the Diocese of Columbus the opportunity to explore Catholic liberal arts education with a regional presentation of this formative gathering. The program size is limited to allow for maximum personal attention; participants prepare and present lessons and receive feedback. Due to the restricted size of the program, the number of registrants from each school is limited to three. Any remaining seats will be offered to registered schools.

Saint Brendan the Navigator Parish, located at 4475 Dublin Rd, Hilliard, OH 43026. Enter via the parish church entrance (behind the large St. Brendan statue).

TESTIMONIALS
“I came to ICLE hoping to learn strategies on how to educate in the liberal style, how to ask questions and engage students in deeper thinking. I am leaving feeling like I can implement these strategies in my class and will be a better educator.”
“This week helped me to clarify the reason behind my work — to teach in a way that allows students to be free to pursue the Truth. The lessons/ideas shared with me will help me be a witness to this goal: to sanctify my work, the formation of my students.”
“This Spirit and Craft of Teaching Program deepened my appreciation of my vocation both as Religious and as teacher and witness. I am confirmed in my ability to walk with and form God’s children into this gift of love, truth, and discovery.”
“I came to this program apprehensive that I didn’t have enough background. I gained the background information here. I’m now confident in my understanding of Liberal Arts and can articulate the ideas behind the ‘why’ we should do this at my school.”
