The Institute for Catholic Liberal Education presents an overview of the Catholic Educator Formation and Credential (CFC) program, an 18-month alternative to secular state teacher licensing designed specifically for K-12 Catholic school teachers. The program combines three week-long in-person intensives with weekly online sessions to train educators in the Catholic intellectual tradition, including the liberal arts (trivium and quadrivium), virtue-centered classroom management, and pedagogy that leads students “from wonder to wisdom to worship.” Speakers Dr. Ryan Topping, Dr. Dean Stewart, and Dr. Allison Barnes explain how the program differs from conventional teacher training by integrating faith throughout all subjects rather than treating it as “frosting on top” of a secular curriculum. The credential is portable across states, recognized by numerous dioceses, and serves as a pathway toward graduate credit through partner universities. Currently offered through a national cohort (meeting at the Augustine Institute in St. Louis) and regional cohorts in Oklahoma and Colorado.
