2020 National Conference:

From Wonder to Wisdom

July 27-30
The University of St. Thomas
St. Paul, MN

We are delighted to announce that the Institute for Catholic Liberal Education 2020 National Conference will be held this year for the first time in the Upper Midwest, at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota. Please mark your calendars for July 27-30, when hundreds of Catholic educators will come together to deepen their understanding of the nature and purpose of Catholic education and its roots in the classical liberal arts tradition. Our theme, From Wonder to Wisdom, reflects the path by which we hope to lead the children entrusted to our care.

Now in its eighth year, our largest annual event aims to inspire and equip Catholic educators who seek to reclaim the Church’s full vision of education and bring it to life in their classrooms. The Catholic Church took up the tools of the classical tradition, the seven liberal arts, and its spirit of inquiry in the search for truth, goodness, and beauty. Once that ancient tradition was ordered toward Jesus Christ as the Logos, however, it became something more comprehensive. Catholic liberal education (from the Latin liber, which means free), is a universal, freeing formation of the whole person in the light of Christ. It is distinct from the secular progressive approach in both pedagogy and content, because it strives to awaken wonder in the pursuit of wisdom—which is, ultimately, to know and love the Truth.

As this promising renewal continues to spread, we invite pioneering educators across the country with experience in Catholic classical liberal arts education at to share their insights by submitting proposals for breakout sessions. Click here for more information.

SCHOOL LEADERS: Be aware that many schools are able to fund conference participation via Federal Title funding. Importantly, see here for a recent policy letter from Secretary DeVos indicating that such funding for secular services from religious organizations does not violate the Establishment clause. If you have questions regarding Title funding, please feel free to contact us for guidance.

PLEASE NOTE: Accommodations are in modest dormitories on the campus of UST. Rooms are single occupancy with a shared bathroom on a first-come, first-served basis. Linens but not toiletries will be provided. Attendees should bring hand soap and hangers. Late registrants may be limited to double occupancy.
