THE INSTITUTE FOR CATHOLIC LIBERAL EDUCATION TO
GIVE EVENING TALK AT REGINA ANGELORUM (January 14, 2009) PENNSYLVANIA— On Wednesday, January 28, two seasoned educators, Andrew T. Seeley, Ph.D., executive director of California-based The Institute for Catholic Liberal Education, and Michael J. Van Hecke, M.Ed., founder and president of the Institute, will present “The Blessings of a Catholic Classical School” at Regina Angelorum Academy. The talk is open to parents, educators and other interested persons, is free of charge, and will address the remarkable value and results of a fully integrated, classical Catholic school. The Wednesday night, open-to-thepublic talk is one component of a two-day in-service faculty workshop for Regina Coeli and Regina Angelorum academies. “We are all really looking forward to having Andrew and Mike come out, “ says Michele Fowler, head of school for Regina Coeli Academy. “We’re looking forward to having them observe and evaluate our teachers and curriculum, tell us what we are doing well and give us their recommendations and suggestions. They are experienced in Catholic classical education and their insights will be extremely valuable to us and to the education and community we provide for our students.” Headmaster Robert Touey, headmaster of sister school Regina Angelorum in Ardmore, Penn., concurs. “We’re looking for the Institute’s leadership and guidance, for the nuts and bolts of teaching the Catholic classical education, learning what we are doing well and what we can improve on. All of our teachers are excited about Andrew and Mike’s visit.” “Ultimately,” adds Mr. Touey, “we are in education to help raise a new generation of men and women, faithful to the Magisterium, scholars who understand the truth and understand the principles of their faith, who can defend it and not apologize for it.” “A Catholic school that focuses on having its students to see the truth clearly and embrace it as their own, a school that brings the Faith into every aspect of its curriculum, will produce profoundly different results than a school that emphasizes achieving high test scores, securing high-paying careers later in life, or that treats the Faith as one subject among many,” says Dr. Seeley. He continues: “While all these things are fine, the different school emphasis and focus yields students who have a vastly different understanding about what is important in life, and that affects everything they do and become. … When you see a student delight in knowledge for its own sake, and wonder about things and pursue answers to their questions on their own, it brings a refreshing sense of joy and friendship to the Catholic school. It’s quite profound.” Wednesday’s talk will be at Regina Angelorum Academy, 105 Argyle Road, Ardmore, PA, 19003 , from at 7 p.m. For more information, call Regina Angelorum Academy at 610/649- 1730.
